The Iran Transformer Research Institute (ITRI) has adopted a developmental approach and has taken substantial steps in this area with the aim of advancing the Iran Transfo Industrial Group. The institute has initiated extensive activities to produce high-quality products in accordance with the latest global technologies. Established in 2000, the Iran Transformer Research Institute operates as a research and industrial entity, leveraging its research capabilities to create knowledge for the production of various types of transformers along with their associated components and accessories. Additionally, reducing dependence on raw materials and identifying strategic production items in line with domestic manufacturing initiatives have always been a priority for the institute.

The Iran Transformer Research Institute comprises a team of experts and designers specializing in various electrical, mechanical, and chemical fields, focusing on the design, calculation, and simulation of different types of transformers. By employing specialized and practical solutions in transformer design and manufacturing, the institute is capable of supporting production efforts. Furthermore, the knowledge possessed by the research team encompasses the entire production process and oversight of testing various dry and oil-immersed transformers within the distribution, sub-distribution, and power capacity ranges. In recent years, in response to the new approach of the Iran Transfo Industrial Group aimed at diversifying its product portfolio, the research institute has also engaged in activities related to acquiring technical knowledge for non-transformer products in the electricity and energy sectors. Additionally, based on the group's needs for market studies and future research, initiatives in this domain have been launched.
